Is your animal having arthritis pain? Neurological issues? Anxiety? These are just a few of the ailments that acupuncture can successfully treat.
Acupuncture is the ancient art of placing needles in specific points on the body in order to stimulate healing, and promote emotional and physical well-being. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine philosophy, Qi, or life force energy, circulates throughout the body via pathways called Meridians. When these pathways become blocked or restricted, Qi stops its natural flow, resulting in pain or illness. Having an acupuncture treatment helps to restore the natural flow of Qi, allowing the animal to have balanced energy in their body and feel more energized.
From a Western medicine viewpoint, the needles stimulate the release of chemicals such as endorphins and other neurotransmitters, which downregulates pain pathways. Several acupuncture points are located along spinal nerves that travel to innervate each organ, which explains how acupuncture can help with diseases causing organ dysfunction.
Acute problems are more quickly resolved than chronic problems, and while some painful conditions improve vastly after 1-2 treatments, one should not expect miracles from just a few treatments. We usually see at least some improvement at each session, and each treatment builds upon the previous one.
